Why are my Austrian home mountains the most beautiful mountains in the world?

Because we have the most amazing rock faces of up to 6300 feet height!

Because we have icy, awe inspiring mountain giants of around 13,000 feet height.

Because we have vertical differences of 9000 feet between summit (the one on the right) and valley floor.

Because we have forests seemingly extending forever, with many large mammals still living wild, like brown bear, lynx, golden jakal, wild boar, mufflon, chamois, ibex, stag, doe and ... even the occasional wolf.

Because we have many castles, over 1000 years old, scattered between the mountains. And we have the world's largest ice cave half way up the left side of this rock face.

Because we have many dark, deep mountain lakes, lying quietly in mysterious beauty.

Because we have many limestone mountains reaching up into the sky, one behind the other, all the way to the horizon and beyond.

Because we have the mountain range with the highest density of peaks above 10,000 feet in the whole of the Alps.

Because we have some of the world's largest limestone mountains, huge remnants of coral reefs of a shallow tropical sea 100 million years ago.

Because we have the largest continous rock desert of the whole Alps, the Dead Mountains.

Because we have a huge Alpine wilderness of medium altitude, bursting with fresh spring water and hence brimming with life.

Because we have large areas of ice covered mountains, with big northern ice faces, like the one in the centre of this picture.

Because we have streams of ice, tongues of glaciers, extending far down into the valleys, like in this picture 700 feet deep, 1 mile wide and 7 miles long. At their lowest, these glaciers extend down to an altitude of 5000 feet.

Because we have a multitude of waterfalls, everywhere in the mountains, including Europe's highest waterfall with almost 1500 feet vertical falling distance.

Because we have a continental mountain climate, with a hot summer and a cold winter, and snow coming down to 4000 feet altitude twice each summer on average, and sometimes even a lot further, so that you might see a hot, sunny summer's day in the valley with a wintery, snowy cold just a bit further up on the mountain like in this picture.

Because we have a huge, eternally quiet ice world, almost devoid of life, where being is governed by different laws than further down in the valleys and outside the mountains, in the lowlands.

And now tell me you would not want to live here! Well, if not, that's fine by me. Too many humans would spoil it anyway! So, don't tell anyone else!
