UK/Japan Workshop on Earth System Modelling

1-3 October 2003, Cambridge, UK

General Information

The workshop provided a forum to present and discuss the UK's developing programme in Earth System Modelling, and to consider how e-science technologies will play a role. It was also a showcase for the UK's collaboration with Japan and the Earth Simulator.

The workshop was organised by Prof Julia Slingo, Dr Emily Shuckburgh and Prof John Pyle for the NERC National Institute for Environmental eScience (NIEeS) and NERC Centres for Atmospheric Science (NCAS). We were very pleased to have a significant involvement of scientists from Japan, including some of the people who are key to the Earth Simulator programme. We were also pleased to be able to involve many of the key people involved in aspects of Earth System research in the UK, including several who are actively developing e-science applications in this area. The workshop was held at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge.
